'Come on Canada, fight the Conservatives'

I gave the following one-minute statement today (Sept. 18th) in the House of Commons.

Mr. Speaker,

The entire New Democratic caucus went to my home province of Newfoundland and Labrador earlier this month for a caucus retreat and they all got the T-shirts.

Not just any T-shirts.

These T-shirts were designed by a local artist and sold at a shop on Water Street in downtown St. John’s and they’re reminiscent of old war posters.

The shirts carry slogans like “Come on Canada, fight the Conservatives.”

The store owner can’t keep them on the shelves.

There’s a rising in the east, Mr. Speaker, a rising AGAINST the Conservatives, a rising FOR the New Democrats.

NDP MPs from every corner of Canada felt that energy.

They saw first-hand the attack on the outports, on rural Canada.

They say first-hand the blatant disregard for our culture.

They saw first-hand the effects of muzzling our scientists and bullying public-sector workers.

My favourite T-Shirt has a young child asking their parent what they did to fight the Conservatives.

New Democrats have an answer to that question.

EVERY Canadian needs an answer to that question.
